Concept
My concept for my castle was to create a floating temple in the desert. I wanted to maintain some parts of a castle in the design through adding walls and towers to the temple. The design for the temple itself was based on what I thought the Greek oracle buildings would have looked like in their time.
Techniques
I created the base for the castle and the tops of all of the buildings from paraboloids, the walls from tubes, and the temple and towers from cylinders. I made the stairs out of cubes that were copied and pasted, and used the split and cap tools to create a hole in the inner wall for the stairs to go through. I used the polar array tool to surround the base of the temple in the decorative struts.
Materials
I used granite materials for the ground and walls, and recolored them brown and orange, to look like dirt and sandstone respectively. I wanted the walls and towers to look like sandstone to continue the theme of the temple being in a desert. The windows in the towers were given a dark glass texture. The towers and stairs were given a beige plastic to continue the look of sandstone without the veins that the granite had. The temple and the ground around it were given a white marble texture to make it look more like an oracle's temple. And the tops of all of the buildings were covered in gold to make them seem more regal.

Pablo Hafid Reyes - F17 elds Castle
Concept
This project is inspired by the pyramid Templo Major, Mayor Temple, located in Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City, Mexico). The building was created by the ancient Aztec culture and at the center of the city. This "castle" is a dedication for the Aztec deity of water and agricultural fertility Tlaloc (left side) and the deity of fire and warfare Huitzilopochtli (red side). I wanted to create a close representation of the actual temple thus I referred to this model placed at the train station of the capital of the city.

Modeling Techniques
The main modeling commands used in this project are extrusion, Boolean difference, scale, polar and linear array, and mirror. The solids were created from extruded surfaces which were scaled with the help of the 3d scale & Gumball commands, also the holes and carvings on the composition were created using other extruded surfaces and the Boolean Difference command. Lastly, the staircase pattern was created with extruded square surfaces the ArrayLinear command to the top of the pyramid. The red accents around the top of the small building where created with the aid of the ArrayPolar command, as well as the ones at the top of the blue and red buildings.
The materials available at the time of the construction of the temple were very limited to stones and some precious gems. I used the white translucent ceramic material for most of the temple due to its similarity in color and texture as the representation of the building that is in Mexico city. Due to its complex reflective properties, I replaced the gemstone materials for the red and blue accents of the composition for a solid glass material, it gave it the look I wanted without harming the overall aesthetic of the piece. Finally, I added a walnut finish to the inverted cone at the top of the small building dedicate to Quetzalcoatl which complemented the whole composition, giving it a good balance between the solid cone and the accents at the top of the pyramid.

Elias Perez:Week 1 Castle
My initial concept for the design of my castle was to create a large estate that was representative of a well. I thought more so of creating a castle in a world where all the beings are small and everyday objects appear to be grand kingdoms, for example, a bug would see a well to be a gigantic landmark compared to human beings. The buckets on the side of the image are meant to work with the pulley system that I created on the left and right sides of the castle. Those who wish to enter the kingdom are meant to enter the bucket and the pulley system is to bring them up to the well where they can descend to the main portion of the kingdom via the stairs that spiral from the top of the left and right towers.

The modeling techniques used for my castle consisted of the command BooleanUnion and the Copy Command as well as the Scale command. The BooleanUnion command was a needed factor for material assigning to show that each portion of the pulley system worked together but had slightly different materials. The spiraling staircase shown with the magenta color was entirely grouped together by BooleanUnion. Each step is the same size as I copied each one individually and dragged, dropped, and rotated them so they would descend in a spiral. The layering of the objects is meant to show function rather than material, for example the yellow is the base of the castle and is what originally was created before all the other portions. The green represent pillars that I found necessary to hold the roof (red) in place and make it appear to be a sturdy structure and not a floating one. The deep blue represents the cog system that turns and brings the pulley up or down, it is meant to infer that there is a machine within the confines of the castle that activates this. The light blue is the physical pulley itself and hovers over the buckets (orange).

The materials that were assigned were meant to lean away from your typical drab brick well. I used materials that shined so as to create a sense of wealth or extravagance, I thought a sense of wealth for this castle made sense as the kingdom would have a large supply of water, a necessary element for survival. The pulley system has a brushed iron on to it to show a sense of use but also prove that it is metal and strong. The purple and metallic roof is meant to compliment the black tile material on the pillars of the castle and is a symbol of royalty. The base of the castle has a grey granite material to compliment the black and show that they serve different purposes, the base is meant to serve as a wall for protection where as the pillars are meant to show the interior extravagance of the castle. The steps are marble so as to compliment the black tile like texture on the pillars in which it winds about. The buckets made of a nice wood but not so extravagant that it appears they have had no use. The lighting was increased in my environment so the light could reflect and gleam off the shiny portions of the kingdom and give a sense of extravagance or at the very least prowess. Shadows were increased to help with the perspective as well as allow the tile material and metal materials to reflect of the ground of the environment increasing the sense of wonder and extravagance.

Anyssa Akridge : Castle Fall 2017
Concept
My concept for my castle was to create a cat scratch temple. I based my design off of cat scratch posts because its supposed to be like a sacred area of enjoyment and worship for cats.. The cat model in the middle is a statue for the cats to worship.
Techniques
The modeling techniques is used for this project was the line tool, extrude closed planar curve, copy and paste, nurbs modeling, cylinder tools, box, make hole, tube tool and the torus tool. To create all the flat cat statues I first drew out the outline of the cats with the line tool then I used extrude closed planar curve.I made the cat platforms and pillars using the box, cylinder, tube and torus tools. I made all the holes by drawing out the shape using the line tool and placing it over the object I want to use make hole on. I made the nurbs cat model by first making a sphere, adding more points on the sphere, and moving the dots around to create a cat like shape. I did the same for the paws.
Materials
I wanted the castle to feel royal high class and elegant, so I used expensive materials to show that. I used a 24k brushed gold texture on the huge cats behind the temple as well as the pads on the paws and the object holding the cat model up. I used a purple jewel like material on all the cats and the paws. This is because the cats are objects of worship so they're decked out in wealthy materials to show their importance. Black marble is used on all the pillars and granite is used on the platforms. Black glass is used on the biggest cat shaped platform with a shinier car paint material platform underneath it and the huge gold cats. Then I used a ruby jewel material on the cat tubes. I tried to keep the pallet purple and gold as those colors were the colors of the rich in olden times.

Concept:
My initial concept for my castle was inspired by the Reunion tower. Being on a circular platform with a ring around it, my structure just naturally had a spherical and symmetrical theme to it. Most components are repeated around the center in a circular setup.
Techniques:
I used cylinder and torus solids to create the base of my castle. I used ArrayPolar to
evenly create the supporting rods for the ring. I then used a combination of curves which were extruded to create the four small towers, which were again placed around the center using ArrayPolar. I created the tower tunnels, rods, and 3 base plates using this same method. For the main tower, I drew half of the outline using a curve, then used the revolve tool to create the shape. This method was also used to create the "chimney's". Some other tools I frequently used were the Boolean tools and loft.
Materials:
I wanted my castle to have a clean, "industrial" look to it. To achieve this, most of the model is comprised of metal materials. I used chrome, aluminum, copper, brass, and anodized metals. I also did not want too many bright colors, so mostly dark/cool colors were used. A small amount of glass was incorporated in the base and the tower window. The base itself is made of carbon fiber.

Clara Crossland Week 4 Castle
Concept
This castle is based on any classic three layer cake, I thought of more like a wedding cake kind of build. What I also wanted was something that was cute and would appeal to smalle kids more than adults. That was the main reason I chose the light girly colors and the plastic material to make it seem like a plastic toy.

Techniques
What I did mostly consisted of creating shapes that could very easily stack on each other. I wanted my castle to look like it was made of blocks and things you could easily put together. I used solid and symetrical shapes to build the castle to the height that I desired.
Materials
The reason I wanted the plastic material was so it would seem fake and like a toy. I really like the artifical look the pinks give it also. I wanted it to resemble a real cake but actually look like a toy or a cake made for a child.
