Grace Kang : Project 3- Surface Population ATCM 3355.001

 Concept:

The concept that I was trying to go for was a jewelry box or decorative box. I really think that using a surface population model inside a decorative box would make an interesting and unique object. The base of the surface population model is the jewelry box while the contents inside it are the jewelry.

Process:

I used the grasshopper definition to make the surface population model texture and created a cylinder shape to fit inside the box. I then used a variety of shapes and commands to create a rectangle base and another hollow cylinder base on top of that. I used Boolean difference and union to create the decorations on the box and to hollow them out. I used the polar array to create the ring of shapes around the base.

Materials:

The materials I used for the model are reflective plaster and paint. I originally wanted to use gem or glass solid material, however, I decided that the details of the model would not be shown if I had used those materials instead of paint. I also wanted to use a variety of bright colors this time compared to the other models I’ve created for contrast.
