Bill Watts, Coleman Eubanks: Week 14-15: Pepakura Chess Piece

For our chess piece, we decided to create a knight to allow for more dynamic posing and creative freedom. We chose a more classic chess form by using a horse head. Through the pose of the horse we show that it is in battle with its ears thrown back and flaring nostrils. Its neck is coiled up as if being restrained by a rider. This image from Burning Man of a metal Trojan Horse was invaluable inspiration for our design.

While laying out the cut sheets, we organized our tabs symmetrically and alternated sides to facilitate ease of construction and sturdiness. In putting this chess piece together we began by constructing the base portion which ended at the base of the head. We then assembled the smaller details consisting of the nose and ears. From there, the head was put together and attached to the base.
