I choose Tarot cards and the arts of Tarot to be my inspiration for the lamp. I pick 4 cards (the Sun, the Moon, the Star, and the Magician) which are my favorite and unique yet manageable to design for 4 layouts of the lamp. The art of Tarot cards is an illustrative style rich with patterns and details. The influence of this style on my design is shown through many small vector engravings of the Sun, the shading of mountains, the symmetrical mountains and trees, the leaves, etc. Opposite to those small details, the main objects are simply geometrical shapes such as triangles and circles which help not to get confused with surrounding details and is very good as light sources for this project. In order to ensure the lamp reads well as a Tarot inspired lamp, I have to include the essential elements on the cards such as the mountains, the leaves, the sword, the wand,etc which make my design become too detailed and may affect the laser cutting process.

Process
For most of the vectors, I used a Circle tool and Control Point Curve tool to trace after my design and used a Trim tool to cut all the excess vectors. I used Mirror command to quickly duplicate a group of vectors and align them perfectly to the opposite side like the mountains and trees under the Moon. I used the Hatch command to create a black area to display raster engraving.
For building the 3D model, I used the Extrude tool to create solids based off my outer cut vectors. For the raster engraving in the 3D model, I used the PlanarSrf command to create surfaces instead of hatch in the layout so I can assign a different material in Keyshot. I used ExtrudeSrf command to cut out the inner cut part. For the wire, I drew a curved line and a circle at the end of the line, then I typed in the Sweep command to make the wire.

Materials
In Keyshot, I used wood material called Ash for most parts of my lamp. However, I assigned Oak Wood Rough for the raster engraving area so the raster would be seen easier when I render the model. I picked Black rubber for the wire, Black metal brushed for the bulb base, and Glass light frost grey for the lightbulb. The lightbulb is a point light. I had two planes perpendicular to each other to assemble the wall/corner of a room. I created a little studying corner with a table, notebook, and pen. For the lighting, I picked 3 medium pin lights, the brightest light on top of the lamp to cast a shadow on the table and to look like the lighting in my room too. The two other lights are on the front and the right side of the lamp in order to make the details easier to see.
For the physical lamp, the whole lamp is cut out of a MDF board. I used wood stains to cover up the burn marks on the lamp so the final product has a darker color than the lamp in Keyshot. I want the lamp as simple and minimal as possible so I just used wood stains and not paint anything. Likewise, I did not use a material to cover my light sources, I wanted them to go straight out.
