Brooke Hudy MakerCase Lamp

 Inspiration:

For this project, I was inspired by the movie Howl's Moving Castle. In the movie, there is a scene where Howl meets Calcifer for the first time. This scene is so prominent in my mind that I wanted to create a lamp inspired by it. This was such a fun lamp to create and I think my design pays great homage to the work of Hayao Miyazaki.

Orthographic Sketch

Process:
As it became time to create my model, it took me the longest to trace it out using control point curves. Once that was done, I used Extrude to extrude my lines and create a 3D slab. After extruding, I used Planarsrf on all of my painted surfaces From there it was just a matter of snapping the pieces together and rendering it.

Materials:
In Keyshot, I kept my materials simple. A simple wood material for the wood, and different paint colors to show what sections would be painted and how. Keyshot gave me a few problems with some of my surfaces now showing up, but scooting them forward by 0.001 proved to fix that problem.

In the words of one of my friends, "This lamp offends me as an engineer, but amazes me as an artist." Enjoy.
