Inspiration:
The inspiration for my design was the Western Frontier, specifically the mountains. I really enjoy natural scenery and thought designing a lamp with those images would work really well. I really liked the different layers and objects that compose a scene such as that, and that it would translate very well with the lamp design.
The design was done in illustrator. I made all the curves and layers there, then translated them to Rhino.
I originally wanted to add wooden frames to the lamp, which consisted of the foreground objects and characters, but the laser cutter did not cut out the wood components. I ended up only making the top and the bottom out of wood and the rest out of plexiglass, which ended up cutting quite nicely. I made the adjustments in both the render and the laser cut accordingly.
Render:
The render didn't actually end up showing as much of the layers as I wanted to. Keyshot also was not cooperating with me in turning the light bulb into a light source. Instead of retaining its original shape, it turned into a source of light and made the light bulb not super obvious.
All in all, this project had multiple setbacks, both inside and out of the project. I completed most of the lamp and managed to get around most of the problems but ultimately I didn't finish the lamp.
