Benjamin Ramirez Week 12: Makercase Lamp

Concept/ Inspiration:

My inspiration for my lamp is a Japanese style. I have always been very interested in Japanese culture and the styles they tend to have. I wanted to make a lamp that would show a good amount of what you would usually see. You will see a Rose, Japanese letting/ phrases, yin-yang, and the Koyi fish. I wanted to make a nice aesthetically pleasing lamp that would show the culture without over doing it. I made it so it is nice clean and simple.

Technique:

Creating a 2d design in procreate, which would give me the base layout in order to have it laser cut, I wanted to create the light coming from the letters. Unfortunately, laser cutting would not have allowed it since it would be so close. So, I ended going with a less light, yet with more detail to carvings. Most of the light would be coming from the top. Using the curve tool and polyline tool to create the outline, sorting them into their appropriate layers.

Material:

For the materials I choose to go with MDF ¼ inch thick since it was very common to find. I choose a dark wood stain color in my renderings. I was not able to do it to my actual model, since I realized MDF material does not work well with staining. So, for the rendering pictures I wanted to empathize the light with a dark color. Too allow the light to be bright. It was a very simple process in order to make it look like a lamp. The difficult part would have been to make is look realistic to the render.
