Martin Canales: Project 3 Makercase Lamp

 Concept/Inspiration

For my lamp, I decided to base it on one my favorite video game franchises of all time: Halo. I planned to have each side of the lamp to be one of the symbols shown throughout the games. The front side will be the main logo used in the games and the rest of the sides of the wall are the symbols for the series' factions.

 Process

I felt that transferring from the drawings from Photoshop to Rhino shouldn't be too difficult. With the laser cutting layout, I used the polyline tool to cut out the layout of the shapes.

The 3D modeling proved to be a bit more difficult that I anticipated. Though luckily, I was able to keep the shapes of the symbols in tact. For each layer, I decided to label under the sides I'm working on to make any sort of corrections with it. I used ExtrudeCrv to make them into 3D shapes.

Materials

When transferring them into Keyshot, I used the wood material since I was planning to use MDF wood for the final product. I tested the Keyshot model in the kitchen environment since the final product will be used indoors. I was thinking about putting paint in the Keyshot model but I left in the air on how I'm going to decorate the lamp.

The final product ended in a way that is not ideal to my situation. When going to Home Depot, they didn't have the wood I wanted so I opted for cardboard instead. The process for laser cutting ended in multiple attempts with numerous failures.
