Serpent - Slot Project

I've recently been studying Islamic tile work. Fascinated by their use of geometric shape in a seemingly opposite approach to that of western artists of the same time, I took the slots project as an opportunity to create a dimensional, organic form from more traditional Islamic art.

I used the geometric Curve tool to create my forms and Curve Boolean to add the notches. Line was used heavily to provide guides for alignment when using Rotate or translating. Osnaps provided quick and straightforward use for translation.

(Above: The Serpent's Tail)
I created the head of the serpent first, initially wanting to create a base for the rest of a structure. While I was gluing a joint, it's maw like appearance stood out. Using the stars and the board they were cut from, I extruded the body of the serpent out from the head. The tail was given taper with the C-joints and Triangle slots I had cut.
