While brainstorming about my freeform design I wanted to
create a piece with meaning and a design that I felt my audience would
appreciate. This model is inspired by a
sculpture called Fortitude. Many people
also refer to the symbol/sculpture as Lady Fortitude. The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
INC. has adopted this figure because it symbolizes what they represent,
strength, courage, hope, wisdom, beauty and femininity. The tension in her thigh portrays strength,
while her outstretched hand represents the receiving of love and giving of
oneself to others. The facial feature
depicts courage and determination. I
included the year the sorority was founded and created Greek letters to
compliment the year.
I started by importing a reference image for both the lady
figure and Greek letters by using the picture frame command. Next, I traced the images and used the extrude
command to great a 3D effect. Boolean
difference helped me create the cutouts of the numbers 1913. I created a base for my design and typed the
letters DST to extrude from the front of my design.
This model was rendered in Keyshot. The gold metal and plastic adds interest and
great contrast. The colors of the
sorority are crimson and cream. I
thought it would be a nice touch to use these colors in this commemorative
piece.
