Brian Hou & Victoria Tran: Week 13 Pepakura

At first, we decided to not use the fox for the project, as it just seemed too complicated. We put it into Pepakura and something did not go right, so we decided to go against it. A few days later, we tried it again. This time we put it into RapidWorks to fix a few details. After trying new polycounts, the design looked great, so we went forward with the project.

We encountered a few technical difficulties along the way; at first the file did not seem to process correctly so it was unable to be cut. We looked into it and started separating more pieces, after that we reworked the construction tabs; in the end, we got it to work. We decided against numbering the tabs to save money, but we ended up dealing with more trouble than it was worth.

Pepakura was something that we really enjoyed because it was like constructing a giant puzzle I made. It's really amazing to see something I made with clay go through a digital scanning process and end up in a different medium, at a much larger scale. A few difficulties we ran into during the construction process was the tab numberings (mentioned above) and the amount of Loctite we had on hand. Although we ran out of superglue, we substituted it for hot glue and it worked just as well. The hot glue was easier to use because it was almost guaranteed to bind pieces together, however it had more volume and was harder to fit into tight crevices.
