A City Called Paradise
From a young age, I was inspired by the buildings that surround us. I would draw countless 2-dimensional city outlines throughout middle school. So for this project, I decided to go back and revisit what I used to spend my class time doing, except in Rhino rather than on paper. The skyline feature buildings modeled after famous landmarks like the Trump Tower Chicago, Dubai Marina, 601 Lexington Avenue, and the Mike O'Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge above Hoover Dam.
I began with a template where the length would be twice the size of the width. Then, I started with the bridge and the mountains behind it. I didn't know how to draw mountains without the ability to shade using a pencil so I found a template online and replicated it using curved line. Most of the detailed buildings are made outside of the template, then placed inside the template. The most helpful tool was the Array tool because skyscrapers have many repetitive lines.
The material I used was a piece of 1/8 inch piece of plexiglass. The reason why I chose plexiglass was because I would like to place an LED strip underneath the piece. I was going to use Lexan polycarbonate sheet, but it was too thin and expensive, so I chose the thicker, cheaper and more sturdy plexiglass.
