Michael Zink: Week 13 - Laser Scanning in Detail

Concept

The object I decided to use is a 3D printed poro I bought last year. I wanted to use this because the idea of creating a digital object, then making it real, and making it digital again interested me.

Technique

I decided to do this project using photogrammetry, so my first step was to take about fifty pictures of the poro. After that, I loaded them all into Agisoft Photoscan and aligned them. After that, I simply followed the rest of the workflow: Building a dense cloud, building a mesh, then building a texture. Once everything was done, I cleaned up the model by deleting some parts then exported the model. When I was looking for a place to use as my backplate, I was keeping in mind the small nature of the poro, and since it is an animal, I decided on using the trees and grass on UTD.
