Sara DeShong-Baker & Nathaniel Propp: Project 8: Pepakura

Statement of Purpose : For this assignment Sara DeShong-Baker and I teamed up to create a low poly

chess piece. We chose the replicate the classic horse shaped Knight. It will be an interesting piece when it is enlarged to about 2 feet tall.

Modeling Techniques : For this model we were required to keep or model under 200 polys. I assume that this was to set a reasonable limit on us to prevent our pepakura folding from becoming to difficult.  I made the initial model in Maya to allow easy component manipulation. However I was introduced to Pepakura Designer.

This enables you to cut and manipulate your model and then lay it with tabs so that it is easily transferable into Adobe Illustrator. Then the process is the same as Project 7 : GeoUnfold.

Material Choice : Cardboard was provided to us via Professor Scott from UTD. However a chose a flat white material in the Keyshot render to simulate how our chess piece might look after folded out of paper or card stock.
