Oscar and I wanted to create a very large rook piece. We used this silhouette of a generic rook as inspiration of our model. We actually imported that picture into Maya to use as a direct reference.
When deciding how to cut up this model in Pepakura, because it is such a large model, we thought it would be the best approach if we built it from the bottom up. We separated the base into vertical layers and the middle part as one piece. Finally we cut up to top part in more of a similar radial fashion.
Finally we cut up to top part in more of a similar radial fashion. In Keyshot we choose the plastic green color so this would look more like a small toy rather than the large sale chess piece that we are actually creating.
