Edgar Cortez and Nicholas Vallier: Week 14-15 Pepakura Chess Piece

The chess piece to the left was the inspiration for our low poly model. Since this is meant to be low poly with a max amount of polygons we had to sacrifice some nice features and smoothness. So we decided to get the basic essence of the chess piece and add a bulbous top with a spire in the center. Our piece would be a pawn since it has the bulb on top and is one of characteristics that pawns have.

Our model was quite small compared to the other pieces in the class and we used two sheets of cardboard for our cut outs.

Our Chess piece was built starting from the bottom and finished at the top. Standing just under 3 feet it was the second smallest out of all the other chess pieces. Our model was all one piece and was manageable because of its size when it came to gluing. After seeing how tall it was compared to the other chess pieces it would have been interesting to see how ours would look like if we had chose to make it bigger. We had fun exploring low poly modeling and actually building it to physically touch and look at it in real life.
