Deanna Flores: FlatFab Laser Study

Concept: The FlatFab project was modeled after a praying mantis. FlatFab models use many segmented parts making insects good references. The praying mantis is my favorite insect, so I chose it for this project.
Process: The model's base and first slab is the body connecting the abdomen, head, and legs. Originally two whole were going to serve as the eyes but I decided large eyes were a key characteristic and made separate slabs parallel from the head. The abdomen was a singular ellipse until it appeared to be too light, so two extra slabs were added to give balance.
Materials: If the model were to be printed a cardboard material would have been used. The materials rendered from Rhino was a green plastic that resembled the material in FlatFab. If given a choice I would have kept the original material since it matches a mantis well.
