Chris Jordan Project 7: Geometric Folding

Utilizing the truncated cuboctahedron from the database I have made a cubotahedron dice

Chris Jordan: Project 6 Waffle Lamp

When I was looking for lamp inspiration I found that I was drawn to the work of Isamu Noguchi from the 50's they were simple and clean in form as well as in function.

This lamp idea I simply took a sphere surface and manipulated the the control points of the sphere to create a number of blobs , this is the current selection that I am contemplating on making (it has a tube to allow the insertion of the make a lampkit)

This idea i took to the direction of depicting the cartoonist representation of a bee hive complete with a verity of holes in which the bees may enter and leave the hive

After lofting a series of curves together I made this object turning the original Noguchi lamp into a less angler more curvaceous object

Lamp Idea #1 was too problematic in the waffle creation phase so #2&3 have been waffled and split

due to sheet constrants #3 is the winner

For the materials an ash wood material was used on the verticals and a mahogany was used on the horizontals to give it the sense of a piece of furnature

Chris Jordan: Project 5 Waffles

For this project I wanted to thing about _ so what better way to explore this concept than by leveraging the sharpness of the waffle slices with the softness of a teddy bear. Now this idea is nothing new the concept of killer bears was featured in pop art and the naughty bears video game; however, the physical softness of the bear has been maintained, what if it wasn't?

I used a number of rhino nurb spheres and ellipses to model the bear thus with a few tugs and pushes on the nurb control points and strategic placements we have a bear.

Ha Tedibea or "bladed teddy bear" in romanji further capitalizes on the thinness of the working material and the entire blade motif by using steel and titanium materials, materials used in blades, in the renderings of the waffled object.
To provide atmospherics to this render, a backplate image of a hallway in UTD, a machete mesh (in black carbide material) and a blood pool (in paint gloss red material) was added to the image.

Chris Jordan: Project 4: Slots

Well since SOMEBODY already grabbed Navajo, thanks chris, I'll grab Inuit design aesthetic with its use of curves to additively generate shapes and leverage that to generate my slot parts.

The material being used is .05" mat board

Slice sheets
To model some of the modules, especially the eagle eye, the nominal ellipse vector control points were manipulated; the eagle eye leveraged the fact that the tangents are broken to create the pointed tips of the piece. The beak and feather connectors were orginally rectangles that had curves fileted.

The object that I turned these slots into is another animal, a stegosaurus.

Chris Jordan: Project 3 - Serial Form

For the serial form assignment I used my carousel which I modified by scaling it up by a factor of 3, to keep within the limits of the laser printer and be large enough that a contour width of a .23 of an inch would work. The ultimate concept will be a geometric bird bath or personal reflection pool like the following.

Mesh views in Maya and Rhino Ghosted view

rhino exported into fbx into maya

and here is the slice layout

For the keyshot renders the top is grey granite while the bottom part is in some rose colored granite to give the sense that this is a weird looking garden fixture i.e. a personal reflection pool or a bird bath. The default lighting came out right and they are positioned so ether the bowl surface or the profile of the face is very visable.

Here are the shapeways order pages to prove their soundness of their design.
