Nicolas Vallier - Project 7 - Geometric Unfolding

For my geometric unfolding, I chose to make a twisted triangular prism. I liked the shape of it because it looked impossible from certain angles. The impossibility sort of loosely ties into Doctor Who, (in which basically everything is impossible. This was even more apparent when I tried to put it together and I had no idea what to do.

Nicolas Vallier - Project 6 - Lamp

Test Shapes:

TARDIS (from Doctor Who) Inspired Model: "T40"

"Cragg"

"Helmet"

"Unicron"

This is the one that I decided on.

Inspiration:
Inspiration for this piece came from a device on Doctor Who called "The Moment," which was a box/weapon that was so powerful, it became sentient.

In regards of design, I couldn't make the gears on the side of the box prominent on the model if it was sliced, so I made it a prominent feature of the top part of the piece.

Nicolas Vallier - Project 5 - Waffle ("Handles")

For this project I took some design cues from the Cybermen (of Doctor Who). I thought about making a shell of their outer casing for their face and using it as a wall mount. It could probably be used as a night light, lamp, or other fixture.

2nd Update:
I redid the slot parts to better fit my board (to .16). Also, due to problems with the middle two pieces, I removed them and replaced them.

3rd Update:
Due to the unroll/cut ribs script acting up, I had to edit the middle of the head so that the ribs would appear. Also, on the final model (the printout) I had decided to remove the top rib, because it wouldn't work out,

Nicolas Vallier: Project 4 Slots

For this project's design, I chose to emulate some of the design cues from Atlantis of the show StarGate Atlantis.

I used the hexagonal design and cubic look of the buildings and outer piers as the baseline of my design, in order to make the slot parts.

I will be using 3/16 inch thick hardwood underlayment for my material. All of the slot holes are 3/16 inch thick.

Update 1:
I changed the slot parts to .16 inch thick and got rid of the indention lines. I also cut the printing size on the board in half.

Update 2:

They have been printed out.

Nicolas Vallier: Project 3 Serial Form

For the contour assignment I was going to originally use my gear from Assignment 1, but it wouldn't work with the parameters of this assignment (it was too small), so due to time constraints I decided to use my Flashlight.

Nicolas Vallier Project 2: Flashlight Sleeve

Inspiration:
My inspiration for this project comes from the same show. I decided to take some design cues from the sonic screwdriver and change it.

To build it, I used the tutorial from eLearning to make it. I used a bunch of boolean differences and rotating tool.

Here's my take on the flashlight case so far...

Project 2: Flashlight (Wireframe and Render Pics)

Week 7.5 Update:
Update:
I had to change a few things because the tutorial I had done to make this didn't mention any size requirements, so I redid the front a bit (cut part of it off) and cut a hole in the back of it.

ShapeWays:
The Flashlight has been sent to ShapeWays already. It passed everything and is being shipped at the moment.
Side note: In Rhino everything was right dimensions-wise (in inches) but once I realized that it was too big Shapeways started production and, due to their policy, I couldn't stop the printing.
Update: I tried to reprint it at the UTD Tech Store, but their printer broke last Wednesday. It was fixe don Friday, and so, due to them not printing on weekends, I couldn't get the correct sized model for Monday. I will bring it ASAP though. (Also I still have my slightly over sized flashlight and will bring it to class.)
