Jason Hollander: week 1-3 Castle Project

Jason Hollander: week 1-3 Castle Project

INSPERATION

For inspiration for my castle I chose two basic castle designs from the medieval era. I wanted to use a fusion between the two images to make the walls and design a little garrison building inside the walls and then I just went for it.

MODELING TECHNIQUES

When I started the process of designing my castle I Started off with the placements and size of the towers trying out how big and how long the walls will be and also determine how big the inner castle will be. while I was modeling I used an assortment of tools to help my design processes. I used grid snap to align everything perfectly together, gumball to move and rotate objects to be in the right position, Boolean difference to indent my windows and doors polyline, and extrude tool to make my doors.

MATERALS

when choosing my materials I wanted it to look as realistic as possible. When choosing the materials for the walls I didn't want to choose something to dark like asphalt or choose something that's to white like marble. I wanted more of a gray color so I chose granet. and for the door and the cones I wanted a nice dark wood color because it looks nice well with the granet.

Christian Hernandez Project for Adornment Part 1

For my costume I am going to be a mechanical elf and will be modeling a mechanical elf ear headband. My Inspiration: I took heavy inspiration and influence from all these images, I wear alot of earrings so I already had in mind that I wanted to model something to go with or around the ears. I really liked the second picture how it flared out into the cheek from the ear giving the piece a swift form/shape. I wanted to incorporate something more mechanical, and stumbled upon the fairy with the gears picture and decided to add gears to my elf ears to make it all one flowing piece.
Orthagraphic sketches For my side sketch has the most detail I wanted to really focus on the side of the ears as that is what will be able to show all the gears, gems and shape the best.

Bailey McCalla: Project 2 Part 1

The costume item that I will be designing is a tail based off the Xenomorph from the movie Alien. Alien is one of my favorite horror movies with the Xenomorph being one of my favorite designs for an alien. I was always festinated by the spiked design of the Xenomorph that stuck a good balance between metallic and organic and I want to attempt to bring my own take on the design of the tail.

Instead of the spikes on the tail protruding upwards, I want to protrude the spikes sideways with the end of the tail resembling more of a bladed mace.

Commands

Box- Creating the shape that will make up the base of the tail.

Polyline- Used to create the shape of the spikes.

Bend-Used to create a curve in the base of the tail.

Boolean Difference- This will be used to help form the shape of the spikes along the base of the tail.

Martin Canales: Project 2 Part 1

The costume I decided to go for this project is Shrek since I really love the movies and have been re watching them recently. The specific part I wanted to do for the costume is the Shrek ears. I wanted to model the icon ears after the Mickey Mouse ears hats found in several Disney theme parks.

Mayah Delagarza - 3D Modeling for Adornment - Part 1

 Costume/Inspiration:

I have never really been a person to wear a costume/cosplay, the last time I did it was when I was 10 years old and decided to do Link from The Legend of Zelda. I have recently decided before even knowing the assignment that I was going to slightly dress up as one of my favorite characters from one of my favorite series, Blake Belladonna from RWBY. I was going to only do a wig with either cat ears or ribbons along with arm ribbons and makeup. Since I am not going all out with the costume, I wanted to make something that would emphasize the character yet also help me in some way for future use. This conclusion made me want to create a snap hair clip with the character's main logo to be able to use with the costume or when the hair gets in the way and just wanna stylize it a bit.

An Nguyen: 3D Modeling for Adornment - Part 1

I wanted to dress up as one character in movies. After consideration, I chose Cruella de Vil as my inspired character for this project. I chose the mask that she wears to hide her face at the party to be my 3D model. Instead of making a black mask with shiny black gems, I came up with an idea of combining the mask and the “The Future” make-up look. After 3D printing, I will spray the mask with red spray paint and glue black and white/grey feathers on the mask to achieve the black-white-red iconic colors of Cruella.

Yvonne Yu: Project 2 Adornment

Part 1: Inspiration

For my costume, I will be dressing up as Finn the Human from Adventure Time. I chose to create my model based on Jake the Dog from the episode, It Came From the Nightosphere, where he shrinks himself into a sewn pocket on Finn's shirt. My model is made so that he hangs onto a pocket with his head and paws visible. I took inspiration from Jake's bean shaped body in order to create a cute, toy-like model.

Part 2: Process

When modeling, I used 3D and SubD shapes such as spheres, ellipsoides, and pipes. For the body, I used polylines and Revolve. For the mouth area, I used Control points and Extracted Isocurves to create the rounded shape. I used Mirror to reflect the arms, legs, and smaller details on the face and shoes. I combined all the parts of Jack the Dog by first using Boolan Difference and then using Boolean Union. After connecting all the shapes, I went in with Fillet to round out the areas near the neck and legs.

Part 3: Materials

For my render, I wanted to create a plastic, toy look which is why I chose to use soft shiny and rough plastics. I also chose to use the same color as Jake for the body of my model, but added additional colors to the details that I had added in (the mouth, eyebrows, and shoes). For lighting, I used pins lights and edited the brightness to bring out the shine of the plastic body. For my environment render, I added a pocket in Rhino using lines, polylines, and the Loft command. The pocket material is a canvas fabric that I zoomed in on and changed the color to match the color of Finn's shirt in the original inspiration.

After printing my model, I sanded off the supports and additional bits using a 200 grit sand paper. I then used XTC epoxy to smooth out the surface and sprayed the model with a clear glaze spray to fill in additional spots that had not been smoothed. Using a 2000 grit sandpaper, I removed any extra epoxy and went in with acrylic paint for the details. I ended up changing the beige color of the mouth, eyebrows, and shoes to white because I felt it stood out more than it did in the render. I then used the clear glaze once more to bring back the shiny plastic look. Finally, I created a pocket using felt and sewed it onto a shirt for Jack to sit in for the costume.
