Jacob Sears: Week 1 Castle

Castle Model

Concept: I didn't really use any exact references for the design, I wanted to focus primarily on learning the tools as i haven't 3D modeled anything since high school and even those were relatively basic. With this in mind, in order to make something with my limited experience and skill set i decided to base my castle off the style of the monuments in the game monument valley, which are simple but elegant and have a very strong emphasis on geometry and basic shapes, in addition to this i liked the idea of the castle being quite small and rather than being an actual building having it be a paperweight type decorative desk item.

Technique: The majority of my castle was build out of primitives to work with my limited skills and intended design styles. After the basic shapes were put in, i went through with the 2d and 1d scale tools and altered the shapes used to make them more of what i liked, after doing so i used array polar on several areas to equally space out decorative items on the towers and central dome of my castle. With this done i added a little more detail on the side windows using the boolean difference command to subtract space from them. I then went in and rotated the windows to be at an angle and changed the size and position of the little roofs over the windows to better cover the top of the edited windows.

Materials: To reinforce the concept of my castle being more of a small decorative item rather tan an actual building i decided to go with a very limited color pallet consisting of only black, white, gold, and a dark stained wood to give things a sort of clean look and to focus on color and contrast rather than focusing on the accuracy of materials that would have been used to construct an actual castle.
